What’s The Best Hardtail Mountain Bike For Between £800 And £900?

I’m looking to replace my very old mountain bike. I ride off road on hill trails but not down mountains. I also have to ride on roads to get to the trails.
Brands I’ve looked at are Specialized and Trek – are these any good or are there better? The bike I’m thinking of getting is the Specialized Expert. Would this be a good buy?

I don’t know of any Specialized Expert for that kind of money, but you’re equally safe with either of those brands, among plenty of others. Don’t put too much stock into brand name, just go to a good shop, where they only deal in good bikes.
Trek has treated me well and I’ll keep probably with them until they let me down.

    hey,
high end specialized and trek hardtails are both great. I have owned and demo’d many of each!
It all comes down to feel and test ride!! I cannot stress this enough… do not buy your bike on others opinions, because there will always be someone who prefers the other.
I can make one suggestion though…try the Specialized Epic (demo if possible)… Rides like a hardtail, doesn’t compress from force from above… only absorbs bumps from underneath!! Best of hardtail and softtail. Homestly, I could be a spokesperson, and will buy this bike time after time

Norco Rival,Mongoose Tyax Elite,KHS DJ 300,Scott Voltage are examples of great bikes. The Trek 6000 is tough, though I wouldn’t recommend the Specialized ( unless you upgrade the front suspension to Marzocchi DIRT jumper or SunTour XCRs! ).
