What’s A Good Mountain Bike Thats Not Really Expensive?
I need a mountain bike that’s all purpose and somewhat lightweight.
I need a bike I can ride around town on the streets, up hills pretty easily, and at times .. on some small off-road trails.
I will not be doing any professional riding. I am not a professional rider, but I am a very experienced rider.
I need a bike that’s not to expensive. Around $500 or less is a good price range.

Take a look at Forge Bikes, they have a model called the Sawback 5xx which is an excellent spec – price bike. For more details go to mtbr.com and search Forge Sawback 5xx, many reviews on this bike from riders. But given the type of riding you mentioned, you may want to look at the Forge Saranac model. In addition to Forge, look at the Giant Boulder.http://www.forgebikes.comhttp://www.mtbr.com
Hope this helps!
A mountain bike on the road is a pain in the butt if you ride on the street for any length of time. You may want to look at the Giant Sedona for the street and off road riding. They start at $310 for the steel frame and go to $420 for the aluminum and $520 for the DX. If you want something more efficient and faster look at the Cypress models for around the same price.
Go for a well known brand like specialized, trek or giant. If something goes wrong with your bike, you will be able to get hold of the manufacturer and get it replaced under warranty. Specialized do the ‘Hardrock’ range which are basic off road bikes but seem to do the job well (i’ve seen people thrash them about). If you intend to ride on roads as well, you could invest in some slick tyres which will make those hill climbs much easier. Alternatively, you could have a look on ebay. You can get some very good deals, but you don’t always know what your getting…

GT Avalanche 2.0 you can get at Performance Bikes for $475 plus 10% off. I have one and like it alot. I do the same thing with the bike you want to. It has lockout on the forks for the streets. Good stater bike.
the Giant Rincon is, in my opinion, the best buy on the market. a very durable hardtail, that is right in your price range. The newest model comes with disc breaks as well
