What Mountain Bike Is Best For The Mountain Mayham In 2008?
mid life time. i have now reached that time in life where i want to do things i could not afford to do before. so i have picked mountain biking. So which bike? the four to choose from bearing in mine that i would like to do the Mountain Mayhem in 2008. Trex, specialized, Orange or Marin £1500-2000 to play with and one year to get fit, aslo looking to upgrade the bike as i go.

You should be able to get a bike to suit your needs judging by the amount your looking to spend. Bike preference will be different for each person, so the best advice anyone can give is to go along to your local bike shop and road test the bikes your interested in. Chances are, you will start off looking at a spesh or one of the others your’ve listed and end up purchasing something completely different. Dont buy the first one you see and spend some time looking around and chatting to bike shop staff about your needs, if your LBS is anygood they should be happy to help.
I agree with Igamogam but if its your first enduro event consider doing Sleepless in the Saddle 2008 (SITS) it just a little less taxing and a good place to start.
I haven’t a clue to what your talking about. If you want a MTB bike that’s great and you’re willing to spend a good amount of cash. I think you mean Trek not trex. So you want to buy a bike with this single event in mind. And from your writing you don’t ride.
You imply you’re not a kid. So as usual I recommend a hardtail because 99% of dual suspention bikes sold are either not needed, too heavy for the intended use or garbage. If your doing down hill or jumping etc. go for a dual. For trail and street riding hardtail. All brands you mentioned are fine. And there’s a lot more that are good as well. You can get one great hardtail for the $$$ your going to spend.
Prepare to get very, very muddy. With that in mind, if going for a full susser, try one with the rear shock near the saddle , rather than the crank. The specialized in good, I would also consider the Marin.
P.S. Take a change of clothes/tyres/shoes. ect.
