Semi-slicks.
Hi, By the sounds of it you need a tire that allows you to effortlessly cycle on road but at the same time gives you plenty of grip for off road use. I would recommend the Maxxis MIMO CX this is a cyclocross tire and is specially engineered for the wet terrain on both road and mud. it has Generous ramping on the larger knobs which gives the tire low rolling resistance on paved roads, while the smaller, round knobs in between give extra grip in loose terrain like wet mud. I hope I you find my information helpful.
You need a non-treaded surface for low rolling resistance and lugged treads for grip on soft dirt. The way to go is tires with a smooth centre rib and a tread on the sides only (See link for a picture of the type I mean). Shouldn’t be too hard to find. Look for the highest pressure tire you can find … they have lowest rolling resistance. I have 70 psi rated tires like I describe (Specialized) and I have no trouble doing 20 mph on paved roads.
you can get “road tires” for a mtn bike and still use them on a dirt path. The mountin bike tires that come on a mountin bike are reely only needed for muddy single track trails (what people consider mountin biking) look at these tireshttp://bontrager.com/model/05189
These would work or somthing like them
if you are in hiller terrain then you may want more tred
kenda: kozmik lite ll, kwicker, kadre or komodo.
maxxis: crossmark.
specialized: hardrock’r , resolution sport.
The tires that come with the bike will be fine.
