You CAN however put hybrid tires on a mountain bike. By putting on higher pressure hybrid tires, your bike will roll much easier on the street and will be close to the performance of a hybrid. If you were to use a 7000 series versus a mountain bike with hybrid tires, the additional benefits you would see would be a lighter weight bike and a higher (larger/faster) top gear.
