I’m considering getting a mountain bike for recreation and exercise. However, I recently came upon an auction for a foldable bicycle at an attractive price of $200 plus (original price was $300 plus). I’m wondering whether a folding bike can perform well on rough terrain like gravel paths. If it doesn’t have shift gears and suspension, will riding uphill be difficult?
How do you measure the travel of a mountain bike? for both front shock and rear shock?
I want a bike that I can actually use for transportation. My road bike is very light and 3-4 mph faster, but my mountain bike already has flat handlebars, sturdier, and has disk brakes. …but converting the mountain bike makes it worthless in the dirt since switching out rims is not easy with my bike (Cannondale Lefty Fork).

I have a mountain bike. I don’t know too much about bikes, but I know enough about engines and motors. Really I’m just doing this to save money on gas to the beach and back this summer. Can anyone give me a link to a website with clear-cut directions on how to do it?
